We talk of increasing female workforce participation and yes, we also aim at it but it is literally a challenge to motivate female candidates to work in rural areas. Neither can they promise them any PERKS like paid holiday plans, bonuses, or subsidized meals nor do they have a very posh cafeteria or high-end interiors. These development organizations also don’t have lavish offices in metro cities, since those NGOs who are working in the remotest areas of the country for the rural population have to set up offices at the Block or Panchayat level to make it easy to operate from there due to which the employees don’t find it very ATTRACTIVE to work here. Thus, it becomes difficult for HR managers to look for the right candidate. One or two of them actually shows interest in joining the development space. The students have either studied the whole curriculum on development or have some alike internships in between the course but while opting for placements opportunities in an NGO or any development organization, most of them give a second thought. India, now, has a number of schools with courses on development, but if we see the conversion, it is comparatively low.

However, the HR Manager in the third sector has additional roles to play.Įmpathy is what is understood as one of the characteristics of HR managers but here, they need more than empathy. With the ever-evolving external environments and ground-breaking innovation, the role of an HR Manager is not merely confined to hiring and firing, and this is true for every HR Manager around the world. At each branch/subbranch, there is a dedicated team that is responsible to manage a project but who will be there to manage that team? The HR Manager! The team’s efforts in bringing a sustainable change are highly appreciated.

They now operate in a more professional manner having different functional areas like finance, administration, research & development, IT & communication, programmes, and last but the most important human resources. Now, NGOs are one of the key stakeholders which equally participate in the development of any country.
